SARS-CoV2: more safety for the food chain with new proficiency test

The discussion about the contamination of Covid-19 in food imports has motivated countries to demand tests from their suppliers. Having the test proficiency proven adds security to the report provided.

Although there is no evidence that the SARS-CoV2 virus can be transmitted through the food chain, some countries are increasing the supporting requirements for health measures applied by food companies. There are countries demanding tests for food to enter their market.

To assist laboratories serving food routines, Controllab will carry out in December the pilot round of Proficiency Test (EP) – a tool also known as External Quality Control – for the detection of the genome of the new coronavirus by molecular methods in matrices simulating meat , meat products and other foods.

The Proficiency Test (EP) is one of the mechanisms for controlling the quality  of results. All tests offered by Controllab follow the criteria of ISO/IEC 17043 and PEP 0003 accreditation is the evidence of these actions. When participating in the EP, the laboratory will be able to show its accuracy in the analyzes and the reliability of the results emitted in its routine.

For edible companies, ensuring that the food handled at their facilities has not been contagious, or will not be a source of contamination during processes such as cutting or transport, contributes to the confidence of their customers and protection of consumers and workers. Laboratory reports are allies to highlight this care.

Accreditation Cgcre/Inmetro - Certified Reference Material Producer

Controllab has been accredited as a Certified Reference Material Producer (MRC) since 2016 by Inmetro’s General Coordination for Accreditation (CGCRE), under the PMR 0009 number. The assessment of this conformity is carried out according to the requirements established in ABNT NBR standards ISO 17034 and Inmetro, thus ensuring competence for the production of MRCs, according to the Scope of Accreditation.

This accreditation attests to Controllab’s technical competence in producing MRC, according to international requirements and enables it to be recognized in other countries, according to mutual recognition agreements, narrowing the technical barriers between Brazil and the other countries of the Continents.
