The initiative was led by biomedical scientist Dr. Luciana Caputo, who implemented the DEB-Test Karyotype technique at the Cytogenetics Laboratory of the Pró-Sangue Foundation at the Hospital das Clínicas in São Paulo in 2003, establishing the national reference value.
