Organized by SBPC/ML and Controllab, the initiative solidifies the institutions’ commitment to improving healthcare sector quality and efficiency.
On Saturday, November 25th, 2023, the 1st Laboratory Microbiology Indicators Forum took place. The event gathered expertise aimed at enhancing performance management to improve patient services and ensure sustainability within the laboratory sector.
This pioneering initiative convened specialists from the field, sector companies, and technology firms to discuss indicator proposals facilitating the monitoring of strategies, financial management, processes, technical quality, personnel and resources management, patient outcomes, epidemiological aspects, and other relevant dimensions in the microbiological field.
Microbiology plays a crucial role in clinical settings, providing essential insights for medical practices and patient outcomes. It significantly impacts physician and patient satisfaction, thereby contributing to a laboratory’s reputation and sustainability in its sector of operation.
During the forum, a group of microbiology experts from leading laboratory services across Brazil volunteered to collaborate on developing indicator proposals for this segment of laboratory medicine.
Key experts and their respective participating institutions included: Cesar Alex Galoro (Former President SBPC/ML and Grupo Sabin), André Doi (Scientific Director SBPC/ML and Hospital Albert Einstein), Alessandro Silveira (FURB and Genolab), Ana Paula Cury (Hospital das Clínicas SP), Carlos Eduardo Domingos (Diagnósticos do Brasil), Cássia Zoccoli (DASA and BrCAST), Danielle Doro (Sabin), Débora Krenke (DASA), Giselle Cortivo (Mercolab), Iara Santiago (Laboratório São Paulo), Jorge Sampaio (BrCAST and USP), Keite Nogueira (UFPR/ Hospital das Clínicas PR), Luis Henrique Guimarães (SBM and Universidade de São Paulo – FFCLRP), Mara Elisa B. Lemo (Fleury), Mireille Sousa (Hermes Pardini), Paula Koga (Hospital Albert Einstein), Pedro Peloso (Rede D’Or) and Soraya de Andrade (AFIP).
The event commenced with an opening address by Dr. Alex Galoro, former president of SBPC/ML and current coordinator of the Technical-Scientific Committee on Indicators at the institution.
Discussions were moderated by microbiologist Carmen Paz Oplustil (Formato Clínico) and Fernando Berlitz, Manager of Indicators and Accreditation at Controllab. They were supported by the Controllab team (Fernanda de Paula, Juliana Tobler, Rafael Balthazar, Rafael Lopes, Shirley Lima, Thiago Saturnino, and Vinícius Biasoli).
The forum also featured the participation of relevant entities and companies, including: Luis Henrique Guimarães (SBM President), Josely Chiarella (Technical Director CBDL), Andre L Santos (BD), Karime Borges (Sarstedt), Juarez Cunha (Plastlabor), Luana Massi, Ruan Fernandes e Samir Weres (bioMérieux).
To facilitate automatic data capture, ensuring greater efficiency and information security, the forum benefitted from the expertise of technology firms endorsed by SBPC/ML and Controllab: Durval Belém (Karyon Consultoria), Carlos Lachter (HTS High Tech Systems), Lukas M Christensen e Marcelo Carbonari (Matrix Sistemas) and Anderson Luiz Ferreira (TCM Informática).
Forum participants invested their time and expertise towards proposing indicators that aid in monitoring and decision-making within microbiological fields, thereby enhancing operational efficiency and delivering better outcomes for patients, while promoting sustainability in the healthcare sector.
The event took place at Senac Tiradentes unit in São Paulo, generously supported by their infrastructure partnership. Among the distinguished brands present at the 1st Laboratory Microbiology Indicators Forum were sponsors BD, Sarstedt, and Plastlabor, highlighting their support for leading institutions in laboratory medicine.
This initiative is promoted by Metricare, a data platform streamlining decision-making in healthcare and wellness enterprises, thereby strengthening the market.
Work from the forum will continue through the Technical Committee on Indicators at SBPC/ML, in collaboration with its Microbiology Technical Committee, as governed by the Metricare platform’s governance. Soon, consolidated data and actions from the forum will be shared with the public. To follow these updates, please connect with SBPC/ML, Controllab, and Metricare on social media.
