Specialist emphasizes the importance of laboratory diagnosis for monitoring diseases caused by this type of virus
Health authorities have reported an epidemiological scenario marked by high cases and deaths from Dengue and Chikungunya in the Americas.
Faced with this increase, Controllab’s educational manager, José Antonio Tesser Poloni, talked to Felipe Gomes Naveca, head researcher in public health at Fiocruz-Manaus and PhD in microbiology from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), about arboviruses (diseases caused by viruses transmitted mainly by mosquitoes).
The topic, which was also addressed at the Journey of Clinical Pathology/Laboratory Medicine in Belém, brought to light the relevance of the examination report in contributing to an accurate diagnosis, highlighting the importance of laboratories having their routines monitored to ensure the efficiency of analyzes and provide reliability to the results.
Doctor Felipe Naveca highlighted the application of molecular methodology in this scenario, in which it is necessary to distinguish the viruses that cause symptoms that can be confused in a clinical diagnosis, among other instructions relevant to the analytical routines of arboviruses.
