Wilson Shcolnik’s letter on his participation in the 2024 Conference in Canada published in the International Federation’s eNews.
In June, Dr. Wilson Shcolnik and Dr. Alex Galoro, representatives of SBPC/ML (Brazilian Society of Clinical Pathology/Laboratory Medicine), along with Fernando Berlitz, manager of indicators and accreditations at Controllab, presented the Metricare indicator platform at the 2024 Conference. This Brazilian initiative, launched in 2006 by SBPC/ML and Controllab, currently serves around 400 organizations across 17 countries.
The event was organized by the CSCC (Canadian Society of Clinical Chemists) in Quebec, Canada. The experts participated in a symposium that brought together members of the IFCC’s Laboratory Errors and Patient Safety (WG-LEPS) working group to discuss perspectives on improving quality in laboratory medicine and patient safety.
Dr. Wilson Shcolnik shared insights from the experience of comparative management of laboratory indicators, highlighting the contributions of Brazilian data and the development of new indicators, such as those in microbiology. The discussions emphasized international standardization, patient safety, and laboratory sustainability, while also identifying opportunities for improving IFCC guidelines and future projects, benefiting laboratories participating in Metricare.
Following the Conference, Dr. Shcolnik emphasized the importance of this exchange of experiences in a letter to the IFCC, underscoring the following points:
- intense interaction with Canadian laboratory professionals and attending professors;
- his participation in the IFCC symposium on Quality Improvement in Laboratory Medicine and Patient Safety, scientific workshops on QIs in POCT, and consensus group meetings;
- his goals of sharing knowledge about Brazilian clinical laboratories, quality systems, accreditation programs, and the Brazilian quality indicator program;
- the key topics discussed in the Consensus Group and the next steps for disseminating the WG-LEPS conclusions and recommendations.
The Federation, recognizing the valuable contributions, published the specialist’s reflections, which you can read in full in the July/August 2024 edition of the newsletter.
This recognition highlights the significance of Metricare on the international stage, solidifying it as an essential tool for comparative management of laboratory indicators, positively impacting global health.
