Functional Coprology is a non-invasive test that, through detailed tests of macro and microscopic, chemical and other digestibility, provides elements for the study of digestive pathophysiology. Therefore, it offers valuable support for the clinical diagnosis of the different syndromes that can affect the gastrointestinal tract.
Among the laboratory techniques applied, the microscopic examination allows the recognition of food residues of animal and vegetable origin, products of intestinal origin and some crystals, in addition to the research of parasites,
allowing a deep knowledge of the conditions of the digestive system.
Given the amount of clinically relevant structures that can be identified in the analysis of fecal sediment, this Atlas aims to help identify the parameters covered by the Controllab Functional Coprology I Proficiency Testing module.
In the laboratory routine, for certain structures to be reported in a report as “presence”, it is necessary to visualize a minimum number of these in the sample. The amount of structures shown in the images of this Atlas does not close a clinical picture. For this, each laboratory must follow the technical procedure used in its routine.
