In an interview, a specialist highlighted the relevance of performance monitoring to increase the quality of the laboratory routine.
The new edition of “Talking A” features Controllab’s manager of indicators and accreditations, Fernando Berlitz, as an interviewee.
The specialist participated in the activities at the XXV IFCC-EFLM EuroMedLab Congress, which took place in Rome in May, and highlighted how much the themes addressed at the event showed the importance of applying indicators in the laboratory.
Another point highlighted by Fernando during the interview is related to the pre-analytical phase and how much errors in this stage can negatively impact laboratory costs.
Indicators and error reduction
Fernando also highlighted the presentation of Dr. Maria Elizabeth Mendes, coordinator of the Quality and Sustainability Center and head of biochemistry at HC-FMUSP. She approached an improvement project to reduce errors in the post-analytical phase of her laboratory using the Lean Six Sigma methodology and the Controllab/SBPC/ML Indicators and Benchmarking Program.
The activity received praise from participants, including renowned quality experts such as Italian professors Mario Plebani and Mauro Panteghini.
